We’re staying at The Barn climbing hut at Capel Curig, which belongs to North London Mountaineering Club. It sleeps 30 in three bunkrooms and we’ve got the whole hut to ourselves so there will be plenty of space. The barn is set in a beautifully secluded location with wonderful mountain views and only five minutes’ walk from the Tyn Y Coed Pub and A5 lay-by (GR: SH 737572, postcode: LL24 0DT). It’s centrally situated, very handy for climbing in Ogwen and has mountain walks from the door. More details:Guest Barn – North London Mountaineering Club (nlmc.co.uk)

Last year, Sam Blandford-Elliott, a professional mountaineer and climber who’s a club member and lives in North Wales, ran two courses at a discounted rate for club members during the meet and he will probably be available again in 2023. He can lead climbing/mountaineering/navigation days, depending on members preferences.

  1. I will be on this trip. Getting to quite like the Barn life! Saying that if it is nice weather in May and there are other campers on the meet I may choose to camp and just sneak in the Barn for evening food and company, willing to pay towards the hut for this.

  2. If anyone is thinking of coming on this meet, and wants to up their scrambling game, I can recommend Sam’s course as an absolute must. John K and I did it last year, and had a fantastic couple of days.

  3. Happy to give people a lift going up Thursday morning and returning Sunday pm. Juan is now travelling up with me Thursday morning so I have room for one more.

  4. John, I assume we all need to bring up some wood for the stove. If we are eating in the Barn some of the evenings do we need to bring up our own evening food, or are there joint meals being organised, if so what do we need to bring up. Is there a plan to eat in the pub some evenings?
