Meets news

There are still four opportunities to join us on a club meet in 2019: three weekends in September and October and the Spanish trip in November.

The next is this weekend to Gower, a beautiful holiday area on the South Wales coast. The climbs are mainly single pitch and many start from the beach so it’s very atmospheric! It’s only a couple of days away so you’d better get your skates on and sign up on the webpage if you want to go…

The following meet is at the end of the month to the mountains of North Wales for some easy climbing and scrambling. We’re staying in a climbing hut near Llanberis; we’ve stayed there several times and it’s very comfortable.

The 11-13 October meet was due to be an ‘experienced climber’ trip to Baggy Point in North Devon. No one had signed up for this and organiser Jon Gibbons can’t now make that weekend so we have a gap in the calendar.  Due to the lack of interest in the venue I propose we move to a more popular location: maybe Wye Valley/Symonds Yat, Peak District, Portland…anywhere you’d like to go for a weekend. It just needs someone to volunteer to organise it, which only involves suggesting where to go and finding somewhere to stay. That could be a campsite, climbing hut, bunkhouse, AirBnB – depending on preference (and cash!). If you’re interested, get in touch with John H to talk about it. Without an organiser there’ll be no meet…

In November we’re off on the annual shorts and T shirt sport climbing week in Spain. At the moment there are eight of us signed up. We’re flying from Bournemouth and staying in a villa with a pool that sleeps twelve (the villa, not the pool!) so there’s still room for any latecomers – see the webpage for more details.

Enjoy your climbing and don’t forget to look (or post) on the RoCs Facebook page for last-minute and impromptu trips!
