We’re staying at The Barn climbing hut at Capel Curig, which belongs to North London Mountaineering Club. It sleeps 30 in three bunkrooms and we’ve got the whole hut to ourselves so there will be plenty of space. The barn is set in a beautifully secluded location with wonderful mountain views and only five minutes’ walk from the Tyn Y Coed Pub and A5 lay-by (GR: SH 737572, postcode: LL24 0DT). It’s centrally situated, very handy for climbing in Ogwen and has mountain walks from the door. More details:Guest Barn – North London Mountaineering Club (nlmc.co.uk)

Sam Blandford-Elliott, a professional mountaineer and climber who’s a club member and lives in North Wales, has offered to run two courses at a discounted rate for club members during this meet. He’s offering a two-day ‘Extended Scrambling’ course on 7-8 May, and a one-day ‘Problem Solving/Rescue Techniques’ course on 9 May. He could adapt these, or do climbing/mountaineering/navigation days instead, depending on members preferences. See the links below for further details and contact him directly to discuss or book.

    • Hi – I’m doing the scrambling/climbing course on the 7th and 8th, have messaged Sam about this so hopefully on his list. Aiming to arrive Thursday some time and stay til either late Sunday or late Monday.

    • I’m up for doing Wednesday to Wednesday, but am going to Cardiff a couple of days before.

Can I take a space in the barn if there’s one available? Please and thank you.

Still need to read the details on the courses but might be interested in the scrambling

  1. If it’s ok, John, I will decide which days I come up a few days before, depending on the weather forecast. I’ll probably be staying 4 nights, so for planning purposes, maybe mark me up as potentially Wed – Sun.
    Thanks,
    Ivan
(If the forecast turns out to be shocking the whole week I won’t come up, but would be happy to contribute my share to the cost of hiring the hut.)

  2. I plan to come up on the Wednesday and stay until the following Wednesday. At the moment I do not plan to join the proposed courses.
    Dave

  3. I will come up Wednesday morning (4th) and return Sunday or Monday. I have decided to stay in the barn as no one else is suggesting camping. Is anyone able to fit in with my travel plans so we can car share and save on fuel. Happy to drive.

  4. I can’t offer car shares, as I’m driving up from London. Which means more space for all the essentials – logs, booze, and electric blanket.

  5. John H, (assuming you are the organiser!! or is it Hannah!!), apart from bringing some logs for the fire, are we eating in the hut or at the pub or a mix for evening food? Do you want everyone to bring food for evening meals as well as breakfast. Was not sure what the eating plans are, are we planning on doing some communal meals in the evening or is it just bring your own food.
