\n\nFor this annual Dartmoor meet we will be staying at the usual “glamping value” site at Langstone Manor\, Moortown PL19 9JZ about 2 miles east of Tavistock on the western edge of Dartmoor in the grounds of an old manor house. We have used this site for ma ny years and we know the owners very well. The facilities are excellent wi th good shower\, toilets and washing up\, clothes washing and drying\, as well as an on–site shop\, bar\, lounge and eating facilities. The owners are Jane and David. (See th e website www.langstonemanor.co.uk). I will be booking pitches for the cam pers early so get your name down so I know how many pitches to book. You w ill need to pay on arrival for your place\, which is booked in my name und er Romsey Climbers. \n\nAs well as camping\, there are some wooden Pods with power and lighting for the less hardy climbers. You will still need to bring sleeping bag\, mattress and cooking gear. If you wish to book a Pod\, please do this yourself as I will only be booking camping places with Jane. There will probably be a deposit to be paid for a Pod\, so book early to ensure a bed for the night. Be aware that if we have to cancel at the last minute due to bad weather you may lose your dep osit on a Pod booking. Please let me know if you a re camping or using a Pod so I know how many camping spaces to book.\n\n \n\nWe advise you also bring along wet weather walk ing gear in case the weather turns damp as there are many miles of Dartmoo r to explore if we cannot climb. This is the annual RoCs weekend meets to the delights of the Peak District National Park. We will be camping at the usual site near Hathersage at the North Lees (Peak District Nationa l Park) camp site. This is about 1 mile due North of Hathersage. This meet is suitable for all membe rs as it is ideal for beginners and the more experienced climbers in the c lub. If you have never climbed outside on real rock\, we can take you up s ome really easy nice rock. There is a wide choice of gritstone crags to ch oose from\, some with a few multi pitch routes\, but mainly all single pit ch with a short walk in.

The ca mpsite is a small friendly site with wash and shower facilities. It also h as some wooden Pods if you prefer not to use a tent. All you will need for a Pod is a sleeping mat and bag plus your own cooking gear\, just as you would for a tent. There is heating and lighting in the Pods. If you wish to use a Pod\, please book this in advance yourself . A deposit may be required for a booking. Please indicate to me if you ar e camping or in a Pod. Booking in advance is required for camping so you w ill need to do this yourselves\, in groups up to 5 per pitch with a car. I f you decide to come with someone who has already booked their pitch with a car\, you can add yourself by booking a pitch without a car.

To get to the campsite from Hathersage< /span>\, go west on the A6187 Mai n Street and TR before the railway bridge up Jagge rs Lane\, then TR up Cogge rs Lane for about 1/2 mile\, then TR into < span class='s2'>Birley Lane. After about 1/2 mile North Lees site is on your l eft just before a left hand bend. There is a wooden gate (often closed) to enter the site. We will be car sharing as much as possible due to the limited parking spaces and to save fuel costs.

Hathersage has a couple of pubs\, and we will use the Robin Hood pub in Hathersage. There are also food sho ps and a few Outdoor gear shops so all you need for a weekend away with Ro Cs. If you prefer the luxury of a proper bed ???? then there are B&B’s\, hotels and Youth Hostels in and around Hathersage\, but book early to ensure a r oom. Be aware if you choose to book accommodation and we have to cancel th e meet at the last moment due to extreme bad weather\, you may lose your deposit.

Bring along some wet weather walking gear as well \, (waterproof coat\, over trousers and walking boots) just in case the we ather turns damp and we decide to go for a bit of a bog trot up on the hil ls. You will also need to bring along breakfast and any cooking gear requi red\, food for mid-day lunch as there are no food facilities at the crags. We will be eating at a pub in the evenings.

\n\nWe’re based in the Duddon valley\, an idyllic backwater away from the crowds. I’ ve booked bunks for us at High Moss Cottage (grid ref SD237966\, a modern climbing hut with good facilities and with some great climbing within walk ing distance. Twenty minutes away is Wallowbarrow\, of which Rockfax says: ‘sits in a magnificent position…friendly grades…rock quality and protecti on are good’. Just over an hour away is Dow Crag\, one of the classic Lake s big cliffs\; the FRCC guidebook says: ‘first class climbing…right across the grading spectrum…a superb setting’. There are also lots of other crag s within a short drive. We stayed here in 2022 and had a great time!\n\nWe ’ll be sharing the chores in the hut. RoCs has a copy of the excel lent 2020 Rockfax book detailing hundreds of interesting routes – and beca use it’s Rockfax\, the sun’s always shing!\n\nWe’re staying at The Barn cl imbing hut at Capel Curig\, which belongs to North London Mountaineering C lub. It sleeps 30 in three bunkrooms and we’ve got the whole hut to oursel ves so there will be plenty of space. If you fancy a week sport climbing in a T shirt in October\, this is the trip for you! El Chorro has do zens of crags with thousands of routes and RoCs has a copy of the Rockfax guidebook. We’ll explore several areas\, p robably including some long (40m+) and multi-pitch routes. For more inspiration see https://mojagear.com/sport/2017/06/01/climbing-destination-guide- el-chorro-spain/.\n\nTwelve of us went in 2022 and had a brilliant time!\n\nMore details :\n\nGetting there – Ryanair fly from Bournemouth and some of us have alre ady booked for 15-22 October\; we’ve done this route a few times and it’s been very efficient.\n\nCar hire – I usually book cars from Malagacar\, wh ich I’ve used several times. It’s off-airport (just)\, the cars are a bit older than the big companies but I’ve found it to be a reliable company.\n \nAccommodation – I’ve rented a house for the twelve members who’ve alread y signed up. Hannah has generously volunteered her excellent culinary skil ls again to cater for us in style on most evenings (we’ll eat out on at le ast one)\, but everyone is expected to help out with chores. The house is full\, but some people may not be able to make it so sign up below and I’l l add you to the reserve list. And there are plenty of other accommodation options if more want to meet up to climb.\n\nMoney – we’ll have a kitty t o pay for all the above\, including evening meals. The total cost will pro bably be £450-500 (including your flights) plus climbing-specific insuranc e – BMC cover recommended at about £50 for the week.\n\nI’ve booked car hi re and accommodation for those who’ve given me their deposit. This Annual trip to the snow clad mountains of North Wales (hopefully) will allow any RoCs member to experience some easy winter mountaineering challenges without having to travel up to Scotland.

We have now booked the Barn hut at Capel Curig from Thur sday 11th Jan to Sunday 14th January. If you wish to go on a winter hut ba sed meet please say yes now so I can add you to the list. If you would lik e to go a few days earlier or stay a few days later\, let me know and I wi ll adjust the booking with the hut owners. The cost is £10 per person per night. There are bunks in several rooms so all you need to take is a sleep ing bag & pillow plus all your personal gear\, and any food & drink for br eakfast & lunch. We can eat in the pub and/or cook in the hut\, to be deci ded nearer the time. Can each person bring up a small bag of wood for the stove as it may be a bit chilly.

As it is a winter trip\, bring with you suitable winter warm and waterproof clothing\, a decent pair of mountaineering boots\, crampons and a walking axe as a minimum set of gear in case we get that rare thing cal led snow. Quite often the snow does not settle (or even arrive) so then it can be a bit wet and wild. Be prepared to bring waterproof trousers and j acket and a set of dry clothes for walking and to walk to the pub in the e vening.

Patrick and I wi ll go up Thursday morning and return Sunday afternoon. Travel plans will b e confirmed nearer the time depending on who is attending. A long bank holiday weekend trip to a new( ish) venue for RoCs! Accommodation is arranged with a local caving society to stay at their bunkhouse for £10per person a night so £20 each (possibl y less with our BMC membership). This will primarily be a trad climbing tr ip but there are lots of sports routes if people want to switch it up.\n

Malham Cove is not too far away\, nor is Twistleton Scar (shor t walk in with over 300 routes including the Chris Bonington 1st ascent of Evening Star\, 3 star Severe). This is our annual trip to the Peaks at Hathersage\, based at North Lees campsite. This is about 1 mi le due North of Hathersage. This meet is suitable for all members as it is ideal for beginners and the more experienced climbers in the club. If you have never climbed outside on real rock\, we can take you up some really easy nice rock. There is a wide choice of gritstone crags to choose from\, some with a few multi pitch routes\, but mainly all single pitch with a s hort walk in.\n\n \n\n\n\nThe wa sh facilities have had a massive upgrade so now the campsite is very posh. There are Pods as well as tent pitches available and a couple of camper v an slots as well. I will be camping so will book a slot for me and anyone who travels up with me. Book your slot on the North Lees website stating i f you have a car or just need a tent slot. If you wish to use a Pod\, plea se book this in advance yourself. A deposit may be required for a booking. Please indicate to me if you are camping or in a Pod. At the moment booki ng in advance is required for camping so you will need to do this yourselv es\, in groups up to 5 per pitch with a car. If you decide to come with so meone who has already booked their pitch with a car\, you can add yourself by booking a pitch without a car. \n\nThis is our annual jaunt to Dartmoor\, where we will be staying at Langstone Manor\, Moortown PL19 9JZ about 2 miles east of Tavis tock. This is on the western edge of Dartmoor in the grounds of an old man or house and is our most posh of campsites. We go every year and are alway s welcomed by the team there. You can choose to camp in quality conditions \, or use a variety of Pods\, from basic to posh. The facilities are excel lent with good shower\, toilets and washing up\, clothes washing and dryin g\, as well as an on-site shop\, bar\, lounge and eating facilities. If you wish to book a Pod\, please do t his yourself as I will only be booking camping places with Jane. This is a w eekend meet with campsite to be decided but can easily be done as a day tr ip (Portland is 1hr 30mins from Romsey).

The aim will be to hea d to the quieter areas of Portland (such as The Lost Valley on the east si de) with options to head elsewhere should people wish.

There ar e a good number of easier grade 3\, 4 and 5 slabs available\, with plenty of top roping options. Or harder grades can be targeted\, depending on wha t people wish to do.

Bouldering is also an option.
\n
O ptions for a swim in the sea at Ope Cove if the weather is nice.
\n The plan will also be to stop at the Chesil Chippie after the days climb ing for fish and chips on the beach (or a pint at The Cove).\n

A weekend meet to the rugged coastline near to St Davids Head. This meet is suitable for all members as it is ideal for beginners and also the more experienced climbers in the club. If you have never climbed outside on real rock\, we can take you up some really n ice easy rock. There is a wide choice of sea cliff s to choose from\, mainly all single pitch with a short walk in. You will need to be ok with abseili ng as most of the climbing areas are approached from the top of the cliffs . You will be able to stop at the bottom without g etting wet! We will be car sharing as much as possible to save fuel costs. St Davids has a couple of pubs\, and some food shop s. There is not much else there except of course t he Cathedral which is pretty stunning.

The Roaches are on the southern edge of the Peak District\ , about 3.5 hours drive from Romsey. There’s something for everyone\, with plenty of Trad climbing and Bouldering on the finest gritstone at both th e Roaches and Hen Cloud. The Trad ranges from easy to Extreme and is main ly single pitch\, with a handful of two pitch climbs. \n\n \n\n\n\nWe’re based in the Duddon valley\, an idyllic back water away from the crowds. I’ve booked bunks for us at High Moss Cottage (grid ref SD237966\, a modern climbing hut with good facilities and with s ome great climbing within walking distance. There’s no phone signal and is n’t for miles – bliss! We stayed here in 2022 and 2023 and had a great tim e.\n\nTwenty minutes away is Wallowbarrow\, of which Rockfax says: ‘sits i n a magnificent position…friendly grades…rock quality and protection are g ood’. Just over an hour away is Dow Crag\, one of the classic Lakes big cl iffs\; the FRCC guidebook says: ‘first class climbing…right across the gra ding spectrum…a superb setting’. There are also lots of other crags nearby . Because it’s such a quiet area most of the routes see little traffic and can be a bit green\, so you can feel a bit like an explorer.\n\nWe’ll be sharing the chores in the hut. I’m bringing my non climbing partner with me – there’s loads of active stuff to do on the island\, or there’s plenty of beach life and lovely cafes.

This Annual trip to the snow clad mountains of North Wales (hopef ully) will allow any RoCs member to experience some easy winter-ish mounta ineering challenges without having to travel up to Scotland. The trip is a bit later than usual to allow the use of the hut in Capel Curig.\n
We h ave now booked the Barn hut at Capel Curig from Thursday 6th March to Sund ay 9th March. If you wish to go on a winter hut based meet please say yes so I can add you to the list. The cost is £10 per person per night. There are bunks in several rooms so all you need to take is a sleeping bag & pil low plus all your personal gear\, and any food & drink for breakfast & lun ch. We can eat in the pub and/or cook in the hut\, to be decided nearer th e time. Can each person bring up a small bag of wood for the stove as it m ay be a bit chilly.

Bring with you suitable winter warm and waterproof clothing\, a decent pair of mountaineering boots\, (crampons and a walkin g axe are optional in case we get that rare thing called snow). Quite ofte n the snow does not settle (or even arrive) so then it can be a bit wet an d wild. Be prepared and bring waterproof trousers and jacket and a set of dry clothes for walking and to walk to the pub in the evening.

Patric k and I will go up Thursday morning and return Sunday afternoon. We may we ll decide to camp nearby\, if it is not too bad weather wise. Travel plans will be confirmed nearer the time depending on who is attending. This is our first trip this year to the Peak District at Hathersage\, based at North Lees campsite. T his is about 1 mile due North of Hathersage. This meet is suitable for all members as it is ideal for beginners and the more experienced climbers in the club. If you have never climbed outside on real rock\, we can take yo u up some really easy nice rock. There is a wide choice of gritstone crags to choose from\, some with a few multi pitch routes\, but mainly all sing le pitch with a short walk in.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe wash facilities have had a massive upgrade so now the camps ite is very posh. There are Pods as well as tent pitches available and a c ouple of camper van slots as well. I will be camping so will book a slot f or me and anyone who travels up with me. Book your slot on the North Lees website stating if you have a car or just need a tent slot. If you wish to use a Pod\, please book this in advance yourself. A deposit may be requir ed for a booking. Please indicate to me if you are camping or in a Pod. At the moment booking in advance is required for camping so you will need to do this yourselves\, in groups up to 5 per pitch with a car. If you decid e to come with someone who has already booked their pitch with a car\, you can add yourself by booking a pitch without a car. Also book a camper van slot or a Pod for yourself if required. To get to the campsite from Hathersage\, go west on the A6187 Main Street and TR before the railway bridge up Jaggers Lane\, then TR up Coggers Lane for about 1/2 mile\, then TR into Birley L ane. We will be car sh aring as much as possible due to the limited parking spaces and to save fu el costs. Hathersage has a couple of pubs\, and we will use the Robin Hood pub in Hathersage. There are also food shops and a few Outdoor gear shops so all you need for a weekend away with RoCs.\n\nBring along some wet wea ther walking gear as well\, (water proof coat\, over trousers and walking boots) just in case the weather turns damp and we decide to go for a bit o f a bog trot up on the hills. \n\nThis is our annual jaunt to Dartmoor\, where we will be staying at Langstone Manor\, Moortown PL19 9JZ about 2 miles east of Tavis tock. This is on the western edge of Dartmoor in the grounds of an old man or house and is our most posh of campsites. We go every year and are alway s welcomed by the team there. You can choose to camp in quality conditions \, or use a variety of Pods\, from basic to posh. The facilities are excel lent with good shower\, toilets and washing up\, clothes washing and dryin g\, as well as an on-site shop\, bar\, lounge and eating facilities. The o wners are Jane and David. (See the website www.langstonemanor.co.uk ).\n\n\n\nThe contact details for the site are 01822 61 3371 and www.langstonemanor.co.uk. If you wish to book a Pod\, please do t his yourself as I will only be booking camping places with Jane. There wil l probably be a deposit to be paid for a Pod\, so book early to ensure a b ed for the night. Be aware that if we have to cancel at the last minute du e to bad weather you may lose your deposit on a Pod booking.\nI will be bo oking some pitches as usual\, so you only need to let me know numbers and you can pay the campsite on the day of arrival. This meet is id eal for beginners and the more experienced climbers so if you are new to o utside rock climbing it is an ideal meet for you. \n\n \n\n\n\nWe’re based in the Duddon valley\, an idyllic back water away from the crowds. I’ve booked bunks for us at High Moss Cottage (grid ref SD237966\, a modern climbing hut with good facilities and with s ome great climbing within walking distance. There’s no phone signal and yo u’ve got to go miles to get one – bliss! We’ve stayed here a few times and always have a good time.\n\nTwenty minutes away is Wallowbarrow\, of whic h Rockfax says: ‘sits in a magnificent position…friendly grades…rock quali ty and protection are good’. Just over an hour away is Dow Crag\, one of t he classic Lakes big cliffs\; the FRCC guidebook says: ‘first class climbi ng…right across the grading spectrum…a superb setting’. There are also lot s of other crags nearby. Because it’s such a quiet area most of the routes see little traffic and can be a bit green\, so you can feel a bit like an explorer.\n\nWe’ll be sharing the chores in the hut. This is our second trip thi s year to the Peak District at Hathersage\, based at North Lees campsite. This is about 1 mile due North of Hathersage. This meet is suitable for al l members as it is ideal for beginners and the more experienced climbers i n the club. If you have never climbed outside on real rock\, we can take y ou up some really easy nice rock. There is a wide choice of gritstone crag s to choose from\, some with a few multi pitch routes\, but mainly all sin gle pitch with a short walk in.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe wash facilities have had a massive upgrade so now the camp site is very posh. There are Pods as well as tent pitches available and a couple of camper van slots as well. I will be camping so will book a slot for me and anyone who travels up with me. Book your slot on the North Lees website stating if you have a car or just need a tent slot. If you wish t o use a Pod\, please book this in advance yourself. A deposit may be requi red for a booking. Please indicate to me if you are camping or in a Pod. A t the moment booking in advance is required for camping so you will need t o do this yourselves\, in groups up to 5 per pitch with a car. If you deci de to come with someone who has already booked their pitch with a car\, yo u can add yourself by booking a pitch without a car. Also book a camper va n slot or a Pod for yourself if required. Air B & B\, bunk rooms or pub ro oms are available in Hathersage if you do not use North Lees.\n\n \n\nThe contact details for the site are 01433 650838. To get to the campsite from Hathersage\, go west on the A6187 Main Street and TR before the railway bridge up Jagger s Lane\, then TR up Coggers Lane for about 1/2 mile\, then TR into Birley Lane. After about 1/2 mile North Lees site is on your left just before a left hand bend. There is a wooden gate to enter the site. We will be car s haring as much as possible due to the limited parking spaces and to save f uel costs. Hathersage has a couple of pubs\, and we will use the Robin Hoo d pub in Hathersage. There are also food shops and a few Outdoor gear shop s so all you need for a weekend away with RoCs.\n\nBring along some wet we ather walking gear as well\, (water proof coat\, over trousers and walking boots) just in case the weather turns damp and we decide to go for a bit of a bog trot up on the hills. If you fancy a week sport climbi ng\, via ferratas and hiking in a T shirt in October\, this is the trip fo r you! El Chorro has dozens of crags with thousands of routes and RoCs has a copy of the Rockfax guidebook. We’ll explore several areas\, probably i ncluding some long (30m+) and multi-pitch routes. It sleeps 30 in th ree bunkrooms and we’ve got the whole hut to ourselves so there will be pl enty of space. The barn is set in a beautifully secluded location with won derful mountain views and only five minutes’ walk from the Tyn Y Coed Pub and A5 lay-by (GR: SH 737572\, postcode: LL24 0DT). It’s centrally situate d\, very handy for climbing in Ogwen and has mountain walks from the door. If you fancy a week sport climbi ng\, via ferratas and hiking in a T shirt in October\, this is the trip fo r you! El Chorro has dozens of crags with thousands of routes and RoCs has a copy of the Rockfax guidebook. We’ll explore several areas\, probably i ncluding some long (30m+) and multi-pitch routes.
