North Wales – July
Jul 16 @ 7:00 am – Jul 23 @ 6:30 pm

The meet is using the climbing hut of the Merseyside Mountaineering Club, known as Cae’r Fran, grid ref SH570595.  The hut is about 1km from Llanberis village and is ideal for climbing in this valley, which offers rock climbing at all standards. The hut is available to us for a 7 day period but you do not have to stay the whole time.
The hut is formerly a shepherd’s cottage, Cae’r Fran has been refurbished and extended and is subject to a programme of continual improvement. The Hut now boasts four dormitories, one for the exclusive use of women, a dining/sitting room, drying room, boot room, a large kitchen and separate male and female toilet and shower facilities. One (downstairs) dormitory is reserved at all times for the use of MMC Members only. The maximum number of places available to visiting parties is FOURTEEN.  The cost is £7 per person per night. Those wishing to use the hut must provide payment before their booking is confirmed.
For those who prefer camping there is a campsite 400m away at grid ref SH575597.

The Roaches are in the ‘White Peak’ area of the Peak District National Park and although less well known as a climbing venue than their cousins in the Dark Peak they offer some excellent routes in great settings.  The climbs are virtually all single pitch trad routes on good quality rock with plenty of choice at the lower end of the grading scale.  What is there not to like about it?

This is a weekend meet to the beautiful South Wales coast to the Gower Peninsula.  There are some very friendly routes with good rock that are climbable straight off the beach!  It’s a really good location for all climbing abilities…and also for bringing family along who love waking or beaches!

Camping will be at Nicholaston Farm which has really good facilities and is a short walk from climbing at and around Three Cliffs Bay.  Their details can be found at:

Costa Blanca, Spain @ Parcent
Nov 3 @ 3:00 am – Nov 7 @ 11:45 pm

John at the top of the second 40m pitch

Mark, Stu and Darren at Los Cotos

Late autumn in Spain – the rock’s warm, the beer’s cold and the pool has had eight months to warm up. If you fancy a long weekend sport climbing in a T shirt in November, this is the trip for you! The Costa Blanca has dozens of crags with hundreds of routes. For more inspiration see

We’re going to drive to Gatwick to catch an early morning flight to Alicante, taking hand luggage for personal stuff and sharing the cost of hold luggage for climbing gear. We’ll collect a hire car (or more, depending on numbers) to drive up to our cottage/villa accommodation in the hills. We’ll stop en route to stock up at a supermarket and, if all goes to plan, we’ll arrive early enough for an afternoon’s climbing.

The following days will see us exploring mountain and coastal crags, perhaps including some long (40m+) and multi-pitch routes. One or two evenings we’ll eat out, the others we’ll combine skills and self-cater. On the last day we’ll get an evening flight back, meaning we’ll arrive home in the early hours.

Total cost for the trip (including BMC insurance – highly recommended) should be about £350.

Let me have questions and expressions of interest below. If you’re coming I’ll need £175 by 5 July so I can book the flights, transport and accommodation. I also need volunteers to take their car to Gatwick and/or to drive the hire car/s.
