Meet Organiser: Ivan

This is a weekend meet to the beautiful South Wales coast to the Gower Peninsula.  There are some very friendly routes with good rock that are climbable straight off the beach!  It’s a really good location for all climbing abilities…and also for bringing family along who love waking or beaches!

Camping will be at Nicholaston Farm which has really good facilities and is a short walk from climbing at and around Three Cliffs Bay.  Their details can be found at:  http://www.nicholastonfarm.co.uk/

A few minutes drive away is Oxwich Bay that has a great hotel for eating at in either the pub or restaurant….and if you really want to splash out you can stay there!  Their details are: https://www.oxwichbayhotel.co.uk/restaurant/

Members attending are:

  1. Patrick (TBC)
  2. Ivan
  3. Helen, Steve, Kids + Bruce
  4. Hannah
  5. Charlotte
  6. Tom
  7. Jenny

  1. Patrick says:

I would like to make this trip but will not know definitely about my availability until later in the year. If I do make it then I will need to head back on Saturday.

  2. Ivan says:

    I’m up for this (camping)

  3. Pete says:

Very much as I would like to attend it will clash with the Goodwood Revival trip we are attending on Sunday and it is too much of a risk not getting back on time. Tickets are too pricy to risk this (£78 each), so I have decided to stay at home for this one.

  4. Helen Fry says:

I would like to make this, but it will be with all the family, so Steve , kids and dog. If anyone else is thinking of coming with kids that may work well as Steve doesn’t climb so will be playing on the beach.

  5. Hannah says:

    I’d like to come please.

  6. Charlotte Rimmington says:

I would Like to come on this trip and Can I have a lift with someone please?

  7. Tom Eskriett says:

    Hi Mark

If it’s still possible Jenny and I would like to join you for this trip. Not sure if we’ll be there late Thursday or Early Friday.

    Will confirm nearer the time.

  8. Matthew Lovesey says:

I can now make this weekend so would like to come. I can do Friday am to Sunday pm.

  9. Ivan says:

I’ve booked 5 pitches for Tom, Jenny, Charlotte, Matt, Hannah and me at Nicholaston farm for Friday and Saturday.

Looking at the guidebook, it may be nice to either try Tor Bay (non tidal) or Three Cliffs Bay (tidal) on Friday as both look like they have a good range of climbs. The guidebook says we get 3 hours of climbing each side of low tide at Three Cliffs Bay, with low tide in Swansea being at 10:50 on Fri and 11:43 on Sat. (so Sat looks better for Three Cliffs Bay from a tide point of view, but would mean more people on the beach).

Thoughts welcome, we’ll decide the weekend before when we’ve got an early view of weather etc.

You shouldn’t need to worry about the hordes on the beach! It’s massive plus the walk down to it puts most day trippers off! Have a fantastic trip!

  10. Pete says:

Ivan, I am sure that both Tor Bay and Three Cliffs bay are both tidal. There may be some stuff which is not tidal at Tor Bay, but the main crag, I am certain, is as I have been chased up the rock face on more than one occasion and I am sure once it was at Tor bay. Also you have to make sure when on the beach that you do not get cut off on the wrong side of the rocks, as there is climbing on both sides of the crags. Getting it wrong will mean a very long walk back to the campsite then a further walk back down to retrieve your bags etc. (or getting very wet feet trying to get back round the crag!)

    Just check before committing yourself!!
