This is a Beginners meet, for those members who have either never climbed outdoors before or are in need of a refresher.  The meet is open to all members, but its main purpose is to encourage newer and less experienced members of the club to come along for a safe and enjoyable introduction to outdoor climbing.

The location is Fairy Cave Quarry in the Mendips, near Oakhill in Somerset.  It is around a 1 hour 40 minutes drive from Romsey so suitable for a day trip.

Members attending are:

  1. Patrick says:

I am up for this one, though who knows what the weather conditions will be like at the end of March!

  2. Charlotte Rimmington says:

I would like to come on the day trip but would like a lift please.

  3. JohnK says:

Please add me to the list for this trip too, thanks

  4. Ivan says:

I’d like to come along for this if the rock’s not wet.

  5. Pete says:

Just realised it is Easter Saturday so it may be a busy journey and popular at the quarry if it is nice weather. I will not be going as it is Easter w/e.

  6. Patrick says:

I am afraid that I am going to have to pull out of this one. Senior Domestic Manager approval for the trip has been revoked as apparently it is the Easter weekend (I think it always was) and the family are descending on us.

  7. Ivan says:

It’s maybe too early to tell still, but the weather forecast is looking a little wet at Fairy Cave. If we decide not to climb at Fairy Cave, I’d be up for going to Portland if the forecast looks ok there.

    • John Horton says:

The forecast this morning (Friday) is still damp for Fairy Cave but dry for the coast so Portland looks like a good alternative. It looks like just the two of us (unless anyone lets me know today) and my wife’s away with our car; are you happy to take yours?

      • Ivan says:

I’m happy to drive John. Could you email me your address and what time you’d like to leave and I’ll pick you up. (I’m afraid I deleted my copy of the club contact list so don’t have your contact details)

  8. JohnK says:

Apologies, but as the weather still isn’t looking good for tomorrow, I’ve now been persuaded to get on with some indoor activities / list of jobs, so won’t be attending.
